Society Debuts TRIO Leadership Academy

Participants will gain not only new knowledge but also a renewed sense of purpose in their leadership journey. They will be better equipped to ask the right questions, evaluate complex challenges, and guide their teams through change with intention and integrity.

The TRIO Leadership Academy represents an investment in the future of our specialty—one that we believe will strengthen our departments, our institutions, and ultimately the care we provide to our patients.

Dr. St. John is Andelot Professor, director of the department of otolaryngology–head and neck surgery, and otolaryngologist-in-chief at Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore. Dr. Pensak is professor emeritus of otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at the University of Cincinnati and emeritus executive vice president of the Triological Society.

Call for TRIO Leadership Academy Applications

The TRIO Leadership Academy is a structured, year-long course designed for early- to mid-career otolaryngologists.

The curriculum includes four in-person sessions, eight virtual sessions, interactive leadership workshops and discussions, and networking and mentorship opportunities with senior leaders in the specialty.

Applicants must be current fellows of the Triological Society in good standing and demonstrate an interest in leadership development within academic/clinical medicine, healthcare organizations, or professional societies. Applicants must submit a completed application, CV, and two letters of recommendation by June 8, 2026. The TRIO Leadership Academy Program Committee will review the applications, and selection will be based on demonstrated leadership potential, professional accomplishments, and commitment to collaboration in advancing the specialty.

The inaugural class will be limited to 10 slots. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by July 17, 2026. The first in-person session will be held in conjunction with the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery’s Annual Meeting, October 17-20, 2026, in Los Angeles.
