The reason I do all these things is that I find it so interesting to learn about aspects of my community outside of healthcare. —John D. Edwards, MD

A Sense of Community

Helping people is what drives Dr. Edwards to continue his work with the Texas Association of Otolaryngology, the Texas Medical Association, and the Lyceum. He’s also beginning a yearlong position with Leadership Houston, a group similar in structure to the Texas Lyceum that focuses on issues that affect the greater Houston community.

When not working or volunteering, Dr. Edwards enjoys live music (particularly indie and opera) likes to cook and travel, and is a lifelong San Antonio Spurs fan. “As I’ve gotten older, I admire and appreciate the dedication, integrity, and work ethic that defines the organization, coaches, and players,” he said.

“The reason I do all these things is that I find it so interesting to learn about aspects of my community outside of healthcare,” said Dr. Edwards. “As a physician, I have a respected role, and so I believe it’s my responsibility to give back and serve, to be a leader not only in healthcare and my specialty, but also in the community at large.”
